“breezyblue” is the name of a fashion accessories brand. Parasols and sensu (folding fans), which are colored with traditional Japanese colors with traditional techniques like chusen(*), are its flagship products.

This is the cotton folding parasol dyed with the chusen technique(*) which are widely used for yukata (casual summer kimono) and tenugui (hand towel).
Components, including a handle and ferrule, are made in Japan, too.
Japanese craftspeople are involved in the entire process of making parasols.
The parasol protects against UV up to 93% and is water-repellent. (Recommendable just for light rain.)

※About “chusen”
Chusen is a dyeing technique mainly for hand towels.
It is a kind of stencil dyeing. Resist paste is applied to the undyed area of the cloth. Once it gets dried, dams are made around the different dye areas to keep the colors separate. Then, the dyes are poured inside the dams.
As the dyes go through the cloth to the other side, both front and back side are vibrantly colored. The colors do not fade for a long time.

The founder and brand director of breezyblue is TAKEZAWA Keiko. She designs patterns which are inspired by nature and buildings, using a variety of dyeing techniques including chusen, shibori, (spot-tie dying), hitashi-zome (dip dying) and nassen (printing).
Hand dying makes it possible to give picturesque and delicate nuance to the patterns. (The pattern in this picture is lemon. Colorful abstract design is appealing.)

All of the parts are carefully finished by skilled hands.
The material of the handle is bamboo grown in Japan.

“breezyblue” is named after the image that the cloth just after washed is dried under the sun and waves in a breeze. The material is natural cotton. Even on hot days, it blocks out sunshine but allows air to pass through. Much more comfortable than chemical fiber.
