One-of-a-kind items with natural wood texture
Using leftovers of rare woods collected from musical instrument stores and cutlery shops, KAWAMURA makes his works which enbody the character of each wood with different shape and color.
KAWAMURA doesn't waste the materials at all. The barrel of a ballpoint pen is made from wood pieces left after making small boxes; toothpick cases from leftovers of ballpoint pens; cake cutters from ones of toothpick cases. Even after that, if there are still leftovers, they will be exchanged for firewood.
KAWAMURA says,"The woods here from all over the world struggled for survival putting up with winds and rains for handreds years or more. I wish you would love my works for years to come."

Born in 1968 at Aichi Prefecture. Amongst a large number of Japanese craftsmen, his background may be one of the most unprecedented ones. You may not believe that he had not made either woodwork or any craft until he became 34 years old. He was not interested in making anything by hand even in his boyhood days. He was the second generation of a lunch vendor (“Bento-ya” in Japanese) and run his shop for 16 years. Although his bento business was well, he decided to change his career at 34 given his parents’ word “You must decide the course of your life yourself” and then he chose woodwork after twists and turns. He entered a training center in Ishikawa Prefectures and spent 4 years there. Even still on the training course, he received prizes in several competitions.
According to Mr. Kawamura, he didn’t have enough money to buy large timber so collected wood chips which are remnants at lumber mills. Although they were about to be disposed, he paid money to get them. He said, “If I get them free of charge, I couldn’t visit the same lumber mill again. By paying money, mills’ people understood that I was serious.
That’s why they called me once they found good or unusual wood.” As a result of such hunting for wood chips, he has received more than 200 kinds of wood, including ones which are now prohibited to trade. Although his woodworks are highly reputed and popular, he says “My technique is still poor. Even I can be a craftsman, why you cannot?”
